Jack, Enzo and Connor received the Room 6 end of year certificates.  They have worked so hard all year and I am so proud of them. They have been excellent role models to everyone else in Room 6. I wish them well as they move into Room 7 next year.

What a star!

Connor carefully followed the instructions in his reading book to make his racing car. It looks exactly like the one in the book. What a star you are Connor.

Garden Update

Room 6 love watching the progress that their vegetables and herbs are making. We measured the progress last week. We have only a couple of plants that for some reason did not grow. The others are looking great. Hopefully some will be ready to take home when we leave for the holidays.

Hamilton Gardens

These smiley faces tell it all.  We had a fabulous day on Wednesday at the Hamilton Gardens. It was a great way to end our unit on Planting and Growing. The kids loved seeing the vegetables and herbs and we hope that our school garden will produce big healthy plants like we saw at the gardens.

A big thank you to all the parents who came along to help on the day.

Big Planting

Today we started to plant some of our little plants into the outside garden. We are looking forward to watching them grow and hope that they do not get eaten. We have covered them with milk bottles to protect them from the slugs.
Next week we will plant the rest of them.

Worms, worms, worms

Today we had a visit from Kathy from Zero Waste. We learned lots of new things about worms and how important they are for our plants. She even brought along a container of worms that Room 5 are going to use to start the worm farm. We had some good "worm" stories after her visit.

Room 6's garden

Today we starting planting our little garden. Each of us had a vegetable or herb to plant. It was quite exciting watching the soil tablet expand when we poured water on them.

We are going to sit our plants in a sunny place and water them every day. Watch this space as our plants grow. We will transfer them into the school garden when they are big enough.

Pop in to see how we are getting on.

This is what the Room 5 children have to say about their Room 6 buddy.
Oceane is filling my bucket because she is helping me to read.
Jackson helps me find the words.
Jack helps me if I get stuck.
Kayley is nice to me.
Oakley tells me the words and I tell him that I know the words myself.

Wig Wednesday

Today Stanley Avenue School children collected $650 to go towards kids with cancer. This is what Oakley had to say about Wig Wednesday.
"Today is wig Wednesday to help the children to feel better. The money is for them to buy some medicine and new stuff."

Shay

Room 5 & 6 are  very lucky to have Shay with us every Wednesday. Shay is a student from Te Aroha college who would like to be a teacher when she leaves school. The children love having her help them with their work.

Room 6 writing

Room 6 enjoy using "Silly Pictures" for their writing. Oakley was very proud of himself because it was the first time he wrote a whole page. Well done Oakley, you are a star writer.
